Suminagashi translates to "floating ink," describing the stunning marbled, wave-like patterns that flow through the blade from tip to heel, revealing a new mosaic with each sharpening. Crafting such intricate designs requires the expertise of only the most skilled artisans, who can forge metals into complex formations, resulting in knives of the highest quality that seamlessly blend aesthetics with performance.

Our handmade Yoshihiro Blue Steel Suminagashi knives showcase extraordinary craftsmanship by our master artisans. Utilizing the most intricate techniques of forging, layering, and hammering, each blade is crafted from Aoko Blue Steel #1, achieving a hardness of 64 on the Rockwell scale. This steel is expertly forged with iron to create elaborate finishes that are both functional and visually striking.

Complementing the blade, our Yoshihiro Blue Steel #1 Suminagashi knives feature a traditional Japanese style handcrafted premium Ebony wood handle, enhanced with a Water Buffalo horn bolster. Each knife is accompanied by a rare artisan-crafted Saya, a protective wooden sheath made from premium Ebony that not only safeguards the knife but also enhances its appearance when not in use.

The Yanagi is a long slicing knife designed specifically for crafting paper-thin slices of fish for sushi and sashimi, making it an essential tool in the kitchen repertoire of many chefs.
